On Starting World of Warcraft

Dear Internet,

I did it. Yep, that's right, I've sold my soul to Blizzard. You know, even though... I'm... paying a monthly fee to... Blizzard. It's kinda like a really bad relationship, it's so addicting.

Or it's supposed to be.

Here, lemme give you the whole story:

So I've been in Game Dev. class with this one guy--let's call him Bryan--all year. And he's been going on and on about how we should all play World of Warcraft... all year.

Now, I'm pretty good at resisting this kinda thing (read: I'm awful at resisting this kinda thing). But one of my buddies in the class--let's call him Joe--caved, and started playing WoW (if you're a scrub, that stands for World of Warcraft).

So a tiny bit of peer pressure later, I caved too, and made a World of Warcraft account.

So Bryan calls me up one day, and he says something to the effect of, "I want to show you something". Now me being the trusting guy I am, set aside how creepy that sounded, and logged onto my account.

Bryan was waiting for me where my character was. He transformed into a big-ass griffin and told me get hop on. So, I tentatively right clicked on his lion-y back, and watched my werewolf druid get flung into the sky on the back of my less-than-sober guide.

Flying me over some mountain range, the name of which I'm sure exists in some lore or other, Bryan dramatically said, "Welcome... to Azeroth."

Now the graphics of this game are pretty cartoon-y. It's not photo-realistic or anything, but you can't really expect to have that in a game this big. In the moment, anyways, it was a pretty alright view.

He dropped me off in some city he told me was important, and that was the beginning of my hour-long search for a way back to where I started, but that's a different story.

This is the controversial bit:

I'll start with: YES, I LIKE WORLD OF WARCRAFT. It's a pretty good game. Cool quests, lots of lore, and a map the size of Kanye's ego. It's good

What it isn't, is nearly as addicting as I thought it would be--and this is coming from a former League of Legends addict.

So I'ma just tell you this now:

If you won't play World of Warcraft 'cause you're afraid of getting super addicted, give it a try anyways. Or don't. Whatever.
